DELVE 01: The Third Heart
This is admittedly something I wanted to start doing in August and I never got to it.
Basically, I plan to just talk about songs I really like and decipher what I think they mean.
The first song featured in this little thing I'm doing is The Third Heart - Harumakigohan (go listen to it by the way it's so peak).
I linked the self cover in specific because I think the lyrics punch that much harder when sang by a real person and not a Vocaloid. Though both versions are absolutely great!
Also I recommend checking out the Harumakigohan wiki for more details (and I use some of the information there here)!
The song is about Mikage distancing herself from her friends because of her own guilt and fear. She doesn't want to ruin the friendship that she has with them and thus decides to prevent it via isolation.
[Within Harumakigohan's lore in specific, the friend presented in the video is Tomodachi who is described (in the Fandom wiki) to possess the qualities of the three friends Mikage distances herself from.]
So in the attempt of preventing anything bad happening relationship wise, she finds someone who happens to match all of the qualities of her friends, making it hard to forget about them.
"The memories of walking alongside you
and your back with sagacity started to fade
The reason I don't say thank you is because
I don't want to have any chance to be disliked by you"
^ Recalls the memories with her friends, how they start to fade, and that she fears them disliking her. Also, the word 'Sagacity' in this case is likely closely tied with 'Judgment' but could also be 'Understanding'.
- Judgment in the sense that her fears have become a reality and decides to isolate herself (hence the "started to fade" part).
- Understanding in the sense that she feels like they would be less willing to understand her (once again caused by her own fear of what they would think about her).
"Every time on our way home,
I become fragile as I drift away from you
The reason I don't say goodbye is because
I don't want you to be swallowed by the loneliness"
^ The loneliness in question may be herself. Or at least that's what I assumed but I could be wrong. It could possibly be literal loneliness but knowing Harumakigohan, it's likely a metaphor.
I relate to this song mainly with the idea of fearing how my friends will perceive me if I do something. And in both cases, it very well may be overthinking on our parts.
Harumakigohan's songs are one of my favorites to interpret (even I'm not writing my thoughts down) because of the language he uses in the lyrics. He tends to use a lot of metaphors and symbolism which peak my interest heavily.
Unsure if I'm going to do this again but honestly I might, I like thinking about a song's true meaning.
^ And honestly, I might make it more broad: anything that interests me, not particularly a song.
Okay, Rian out. :P
