Genetics of an African American

Hi. Wow, a double post...

My APAAS teacher started making us think about our big project for the end of the year. To be honest, everyone else's was really good.

Mine in specific is about the genetics of African Americans. The specific question I have is:

"How did slavery in the Americas impact the genetics of African Americans?"

I assumed that based on what he told another student that mine would also be too broad. And it was. But he did fuck with it!

He suggested to mention a specific region and I'm just wondering if I should do that or focus on something else (if applicable). This is lowkey (highkey) such an interesting topic and I want to do it well not only to do well on the AP exam as a whole but to also prove to myself I can do this and that I'm not as useless as I have been feeling recently.

I'll talk more about the class itself from here on out.

I love it... I already mentioned it here but it's revealing a side of history seemingly missing from most history books.

I think my teacher said he's taught African American Studies before but not on the AP level so we're all kind of learning what to do.

I've always felt kind of bored hearing about the things every history book/class would tell me, which was a part of the reason I chose the class. I also of course wanted to know more about 'my' (not literally but yk...) heritage. I've also realized I really love Bottom-Up History. Last year, my APUSH teacher showed us a movie... documentary... whatever about a midwife. And lowkey... it was interesting. I kind of realized I liked seeing the perspective of people not shown nearly as much (or ever) in history.

I had kind of been in this rut of hating history as a subject but I began to realize it wasn't all of history I hated... just the parts that got the most coverage.

I felt like I couldn't relate to the rich and/or white men always mentioned.

But, this is something I could get used to.
